Anche se non \u00e8 cos\u00ec facile notarlo perch\u00e8 in quel punto ci sono altre cose interessanti che possono rubare lo sguardo. Sull\u2019angolo c\u2019\u00e8 una grande casa d\u2019epoca, con la vernice ormai scrostata che si stacca da legni piegati dal tempo, e dalla parte opposta ci sono le luci abbaglanti di un distributore di benzina. Sullo sfondo passa un fiume contornato da una palude. In questo scenario la scritta sul cartello si pu\u00f2 perdere facilmente.<br \/>Cosa c\u2019\u00e8 scritto? Mi fermo all\u2019angolo e torno indietro per leggere meglio\u2026.<br \/>\u201cCampo Prigionieri della Seconda Guerra Mondiale.<br \/>In questo sito, 500 prigionieri Italiani furono tratenuti dall\u2019esercito Americano nel 1943\u201d.<br \/>Torno all\u2019angolo, giro al semaforo e attraverso il ponte sopra il fiume. Giro ancora una volta, e dopo qualche centinaio di metri mi trovo davanti al camper di Jacopo Gallelli. Siamo sulla sponda opposta del fiume Cashie a poca distanza dal ex-campo prigionieri.<br \/>Fra qualche ora forse mi addormenter\u00f2 in una casa costruita attorno a un albero il cui tronco passa accanto al letto. Dalla palude mi arriva il ronz\u00eco di un\u2019orchestra marziale, o marziana? Un coro di rane canta senza pausa. Se esci fuori e guardi in cielo, nugoli di zanzare svolazzano nel tentativo di pungerti, ma vengono mangiate istantaneamente da pippistrelli silenziosi. Nell\u2019ombra un gufo bubola e i grilli friniscono come se fossero allo stadio. Pi\u00f9 in l\u00e0, nell\u2019oscurit\u00e0 della palude, un alligatore gira attorno a suo nido in silenzio.<br \/>Sentendo l\u2019avvicinarsi di un rivale, apre la bocca ed emette un battito sordo. Mentre siamo a cena con Jacopo e sua moglie colgo l\u2019occasione per fargli vedere la scritta sul cartello e lui commenta scherzando: \u201cvendetta!\u201d<br \/>Poi Jacopo mi racconta un po\u2019 di questa stagione nel Bass Pro Tour. Prove andate bene, ma gare rovinate da alluvioni ed altri cataclismi. Gli innumerevoli pesci di misura persi. Le strategie di gara sbagliate.\nCon un sorriso, penso che in questa localit\u00e0 non ci sono mai stati tanti italiani come nel \u201843. E quelli, come facevano a dormire d\u2019estate, con tutta questa rumorosa vita notturna di palude?<\/p><p><br \/><strong>Mercoledi, 29 Maggio<\/strong><\/p><p>Le prove ufficiali per i concorrenti del <a href=\"https:\/\/jacopogallelli.com\/it\/tournaments\/bass-pro-tour-2024-chowan-river\/\">Bass Pro Tour<\/a> iniziano sabato primo giugno. Per poter pescare insieme io e Jacopo, bisogna stare fuori dal campo di gara, facendo molta attenzione ai limiti, consultando costantemente le mappe. Spiego a Jacopo che sono venuto in vacanza a godermi un po\u2019 la compagnia di italiani (che nel Nord Carolina ce ne sono veramente pochi\u2026), ma se riusciamo anche a catturare qualche bel pesce mi farebbe molto piacere. Capisco per\u00f2 che per il pescatore professionista, la gara non finisce mai. E in questo momento Jacopo vorebbe veramente cambiare il corso della sua stagione.<br \/>Ogni giorno sull\u2019acqua \u00e8 una giornata in ufficio.<br \/>Per chi non ha mai provato a pescare in barca con un\u2019agonista top del bassfishing vi assicuro che \u00e8  un\u2019esperienza indimenticabile, anche se impegnativa. All\u2019inizio della giornata proviamo prima a pescare nell\u2019alto corso del fiume Roanoke, ma dopo un\u2019ora cambiamo idea e ci spostiamo. Capisco subito che Jacopo \u00e8 un navigatore esperto. Quando prendiamo una curva stretta del fiume ad una velocit\u00e0 cos\u00ec elevata, mi torna in mente lo sciatore Alberto Tomba (per\u00f2 senza cadute\u2026). Poi ci spostiamo di nuovo, cambiando addirittura fiume. Aliamo la barca e facciamo una mezz\u2019oretta di strada per arrivare sul fiume Perquimans e l\u00ec, nella baia aperta, Jacopo manovra la barca di nuovo come un maestro, evitando le boe che segnano le gabbie per catturare granchi come se fossero bandiere lungo la pista di slalom. Per chi vuole imparare a navigare una bass boat, \u00e8 proprio una lezione avanzata, al livello di dottorato.<br \/>Ma la vera lezione arriva quando iniziamo a pescare sul serio. La giornata di lavoro \u00e8 lunga dodici ore. Siamo partiti dal campeggio alle sei, e adesso sono gi\u00e0 le dieci del mattino. Avendo trovato solo un bass al primo spot, ci siamo spostati in una piccola baia dove scorgiamo a breve distanza la barca del grande Takahiro Omori. Qui riusciamo a fare delle buone catture pescando due o tre piccoli bass. Jacopo pesca perfino una sogliola, a riprova dell\u2019alta salinit\u00e0 di queste acque. Mi racconta di aver visto il giorno prima addirittura un branco di delfini\u2026<br \/>Ci spostiamo ancora una volta, attraversando un tratto della baia di Albermarle ed entriamo in una zona che assomiglia molto alla palude vicina al nostro campeggio. \nQui, troviamo ancora diversi pesci, in quantit\u00e0 se non di qualit\u00e0. E la differenza tra noi due pescatori \u00e8 pi\u00f9 evidente. Jacopo non pesca con la canna, ma con un pennello. Ogni suo lancio inquadra il punto esatto dove deve cadere l\u2019esca e l\u00ec la fa arrivare. Poi iniziamo a catturare pesci anche di taglia meggiore. Jacopo con la coda dell\u2019occhio mi osserva mentre pesco e cerca di darmi dei buoni consigli per migliorare la mia tecnica.<br \/>Per oltre un\u2019ora mi istruisce nell\u2019arte del \u201cpitching.\u201d Io, che sono abituato a pescare dal kayak, mi devo abituare non solo all\u2019altezza della barca, ma anche a lanciare correttamente.<br \/>Alla fine i consigli di Jacopo cominciano a funzionare e - dopo lanci sbagliati e molte parucche -  finalmente pesco tre bass, anche se piccoletti. Anche se Jacopo ne prende molti di pi\u00f9, notiamo che sono di una tipologia particolare, molto lunghi, ma anche molto magri. Non proprio utili per le gare\u2026<br \/>La seconda giornata di pesca comunque produce risultati migliori della prima. Anche se ancora non pienemante soddisfacenti. Mancano due giornate all\u2019inizio delle prove ufficiali, la questione rimane: riuscir\u00e0 Jacopo a trovare i pesci che gli servono per la gara? Gli saranno stati utili questi giorni di pesca in amicizia, fuori dal campo di gara?  Io non lo saprei dire, per\u00f2 ho imparato molto.<br \/>Superate le lezioni di pitching, ho anche imparato che il mondo del bass fishing a questi altissimi livelli \u00e8 un mondo di artisti, dove ognuno cerca di fare un capolavoro. Con la disciplina di un soldato e la grinta di un\u2019atleta olimpionico,  Jacopo e i suoi colleghi lavorano come matti, col pennello in mano, dipingendo opere personali in grado di aiutarli nella conquista dei propri obiettivi stagionali. Il mondo dell Albemarle Sound, \u00e8 un quadro dove l\u2019acqua dolce mischia con quella salata, dove si pescano sogliole accanto ai bass, \u00e8 un mondo diverso, fuori dai normali canoni del bass fishing.<br \/>Alla fine della giornata, mentre montiamo la barca sul carrello, arriva alla rampa ancheTakahiro Omori. Cos\u00ec stiamo l\u00ec a chiacherare un po\u2019. E ripensiamo alla scritta sul cartello di Windsor che segnalava il campo di reclusione. Ottanta anni fa, ci confinavano tutti, giapponesi ed italiani, in quel campo di prigionia militare. Invece oggi, un italiano ed un giapponese sono venuti in America da campioni a livelli pi\u00f9 alti del bass fishing professionistico, come artisti alla ricerca di un sogno. Gli ascolto mentre parlano e capisco che l\u2019amicizia tra i due pescatori \u00e8 un rapporto che supera i confini. Con la tela blu del cielo che si stende dall\u2019oceano al tramonto, provo la netta sensazione che in questa prossima gara non ci saranno perdenti. In un certo senso, noi che viviamo fuori dal \u201ccampo\u201d, abbiamo gi\u00e0
